A Practical Evidence Review for Your Contractor Website

·3 min read

A contractor website should help a homeowner evaluate the business. Use this practical review to identify claims that need evidence or clearer wording. It is an editorial checklist, not a Google score or a ranking guarantee.

Check credentials against their records

For each license or certification, record the holder, issuer, current status and relevant scope. Where appropriate, link to the issuer's verification record. Do not imply that one technician's credential belongs to every employee or that an association membership is a trade license.

Review manufacturer designations and badge permissions separately. A business that installs a brand's equipment should not claim authorized-dealer status without confirmation. Remove expired designations rather than leaving an old logo as implied evidence.

Review job examples before publishing

Match the description to a real job record. Confirm what work was performed and whether you have permission to use the photographs. Remove customer details that do not belong in a public example.

If you describe savings or other outcomes, retain the underlying measurements, comparison period and limitations. Equipment specifications alone do not establish what a particular household saved. Do not reuse a hypothetical result as a customer case study.

Check identity and contact information

Verify the business name, phone number, website and actual service area. Resolve information that could send customers to the wrong business or imply services you do not provide.

Handle addresses according to how the business operates. Google's Business Profile rules say service-area businesses without a customer-facing storefront should hide their address on the profile. That rule is not a blanket website-address requirement. Do not publish a private home address merely to satisfy an invented SEO checklist.

Review trust claims individually

Check insurance statements against current coverage information. Confirm that customer quotations are genuine, accurate and authorized for the intended use. Explain actual data practices in your privacy information instead of copying statements that do not describe your forms or tools.

Evaluate memberships for their real benefits and eligibility requirements. This review does not assign a fixed SEO value to a directory link or recommend buying a membership on the promise of ranking gains.

Keep a maintenance record

Record the source, owner and last verification date for each important claim. Recheck it when staff, credentials, services or business practices change. Correct inaccurate statements promptly and retain the evidence supporting the replacement.

The useful output is a list of substantiated claims and specific corrections. A completed checklist does not certify legal compliance, guarantee rankings or prove that every statement on the site is accurate.
