Google Ads Assets for Contractors: Add Useful Information and Verify Results

·3 min read

Ad assets can provide useful service information and additional ways to contact a business. Their value depends on relevance, accuracy, and the resulting customer experience, not simply how many fields are filled.

Understand cost and display

Google's asset documentation says there is no cost to add assets. Clicks and certain interactions are charged as usual, and ads with more assets can have a higher actual CPC because of increased prominence.

Google selects eligible combinations for each search. Adding five asset types does not guarantee all will appear together, double the ad's size, or deliver a fixed increase in clicks.

Make calling useful and measurable

Use the correct phone number and schedule call availability around the response process. Check which campaigns use each asset rather than assuming an account-level number is suitable everywhere.

A call-button click is not proof of a qualified conversation. Review the phone conversion method, routing, and outcome definitions. Keep clicks, calls, qualified inquiries, and bookings distinct.

Google's migration guidance states that new call-only ad creation ended in February 2026 and existing call-only ads stop receiving impressions in February 2027. Prepare responsive search ads with call assets and verify their approval and delivery before retiring the old format.

Choose useful destinations

Sitelinks can lead to relevant pages such as service details, coverage, or contact information. Use a free-estimate or emergency-service link only when the business actually offers it.

Descriptions are optional and can make a sitelink eligible to show additional detail. They do not reserve fixed display slots. Review URLs and asset associations, including where a shared edit will take effect.

Describe services accurately

Write concise callouts using verified facts and check the current character limits. Do not invent warranties, dispatch times, credentials, or years in business to fill the available space.

For structured snippets, use an appropriate supported header. Google's Service catalog requirements call for specific service offerings. Snippet text provides information; it does not exclude search queries the way a negative keyword does.

If using price assets, keep the displayed price, scope, qualifications, and destination consistent. Showing a price does not guarantee that unsuitable inquiries disappear.

Review actual outcomes

Check approval, delivery, destinations, numbers, and current business facts after setup. Revisit assets when services, coverage, prices, or availability change.

Compare spending with qualified inquiries and booked work. More clicks alone do not establish better acquisition economics, and a missing asset on one impression does not prove the setup is broken.
