Google AI Overviews for Contractors: Check Eligibility and Measure Visibility
Google AI Overviews can help people explore a question and visit supporting sources. For a contractor, the practical work starts with a useful website and accurate business information. There is no published formula that guarantees a recommendation.
Check documented eligibility
Google's AI optimization guide explains that a page must be indexed and eligible for a search snippet, and the site must be included in generative search features through Search Console. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee that Google will display the page.
Check indexing information and relevant controls in Search Console. Keep public pages accessible and make important information available to visitors. Do not assume that adding FAQ markup creates eligibility or fixes a page that is inaccessible.
Maintain truthful business details
Confirm your services, hours, coverage and contact details across the website and Business Profile. Review changes when your operation changes. Follow Google's business representation guidelines instead of filling fields with claims that do not apply.
Use customer feedback to understand what needs explanation. Google's local-ranking guidance discusses reviews alongside other factors; it does not provide an AI Overview eligibility threshold of fifty reviews. Do not promise a recommendation based on a review count or schedule.
Separate observations from explanations
Record a search observation with its date, query and the actual cited URL. Distinguish a mention of the business from a link to its website. Search experiences can vary, so a single observation does not establish stable coverage.
Use available Search Console reporting and relevant website inquiries to assess progress. Keep a record of site changes and avoid attributing every movement to one edit. Clear content and maintained business information are useful ongoing work, but neither an exact answer length nor a special schema block guarantees placement.
