Google Business Profile Posts: Share Useful Updates and Measure the Response

·3 min read

Google Business Profile posts let you share business information with people on Search and Maps. Use them when you have a useful update, genuine offer or event to explain. A posting schedule is not a documented guarantee of better local rankings.

Choose the format that fits

Google's posting guidance lists Updates, Offers and Events. Select the format that matches the information and check the available fields. Offers and events need accurate dates and details.

The same guidance says posts older than six months are archived unless a date range is set. Do not build a weekly publishing requirement around an assumed seven-day disappearance. Scheduling is available in the posting workflow; verify the date and time before saving.

Publish information customers can use

As practical content ideas, consider an authorized photo of completed work, a change in operating hours or an explanation of how to request an estimate. Describe only work and availability you can verify.

If you publish an offer, confirm the price, eligibility, expiry and terms with the business first. Do not manufacture urgency or discounts simply to fill a calendar. For maintenance advice, check the relevant equipment guidance instead of giving every customer the same interval.

Use an appropriate action button and test its destination. Google notes that phone numbers in post descriptions may cause rejection. Review the available contact options rather than putting unverified details into the text.

Check the published result

Google reviews posts under its content policies. Confirm that a submitted post is live; pending or rejected content is not public.

Inspect the image and text on the surfaces customers use. Keep essential information in readable text and check cropping rather than assuming one image size prevents every display issue. Use photographs you have permission to publish.

Choose a sustainable routine

A calendar can help someone take responsibility for reviewing updates. Select a frequency based on useful information and available review time. Do not publish inaccurate or empty material to meet an invented ranking quota.

Google's local-ranking guidance explains relevance, distance and prominence. It does not provide the weekly-posting formula sometimes presented as a shortcut into the local pack.

Measure without overstating attribution

Use the profile's Performance report to inspect available interactions over a defined period. Google says this reporting can include organic and advertising activity. Its Calls metric counts clicks on the call button, not confirmed conversations.

Keep a record of posts, offers and other marketing changes. Compare profile interactions with website visits and actual inquiries where your measurement allows. Consider seasonality and advertising changes before attributing a movement to posting.

Use those observations to improve the information you share. A rise in profile views does not by itself prove more booked work or establish a repeatable ranking effect.
