Perplexity Recommendations: Verify the Facts Behind the Answer

·2 min read

When an AI answer names a contractor, check what the cited sources actually establish. A recommendation can be useful to investigate, but it is not proof that the business meets every requirement in the question.

Inspect the supporting pages

Perplexity describes searching and synthesizing sources to answer questions. Open the links and distinguish a business's own statements from directory information, customer accounts and independently verified credentials.

Check whether the information is current and refers to the correct business. A directory listing or roundup can contain mistakes. Its presence in an answer does not make every associated claim reliable.

Check the details that affect a customer's decision

  • Does the business actually offer the requested service in that location?
  • Is availability current, or does the source describe an earlier job?
  • Does a quoted price explain its scope, date and exclusions?
  • Can a credential be checked with the issuing organization?

For your own business, correct unsupported or outdated statements in sources you manage. Do not invent precise prices or response times merely to make a service page easier to quote. Structured data should describe the same facts as the visible page, not substitute for verification.

Do not chase assumed eligibility quotas

A fixed review count or number of directory listings does not establish a universal Perplexity requirement. Keep business details accurate and follow each platform's rules. In particular, Yelp prohibits soliciting reviews; do not apply a Google review-request process to Yelp automatically.

Google's AI guidance does not promise inclusion from a special schema or content format. Do not sell one markup implementation as a guaranteed improvement across every search service.

Separate visibility from business outcomes

Record whether an observed answer mentions the business, recommends it or cites its website. Track visits, inquiries and booked jobs separately. A recommendation does not guarantee a call, and broad audience demographics do not predict what an individual homeowner can afford or will buy.
