When Google Shows a Different Title for Your Contractor Page
You may see a search result whose title differs from the title saved in your website. Record the result before deciding whether anything needs fixing. A difference alone does not tell you that traffic or leads were lost.
Understand what you control
Google generates title links automatically using sources that include the title element, prominent headings, and link text. You can improve the source material, but you cannot require Google to display a particular formula.
Review whether the displayed wording accurately describes the page. If it does, a difference from your preferred wording may not warrant an edit. If it is inaccurate, investigate where the misleading text appears.
Collect a reproducible observation
Save the query, date, device, location context, result URL, and displayed title. Compare them with the current page title, main heading, and prominent text. Note recent deployments that could explain a mismatch between the current site and an older observation.
Search Console explains that results vary with context. Treat a private-window search or a site-restricted search as one observation, not a baseline that every customer sees.
Correct the underlying information
Resolve an outdated service name, misleading heading, or incomplete title where you find it. Keep branding concise and the page's purpose clear. Do not add an unverified city, offer, or credential to force more keywords into the result.
Check descriptions separately. Google can select different snippets for different searches. Write an accurate summary and keep the body useful; a fixed description length cannot force the summary to appear unchanged.
Evaluate after publication
Record what changed and verify the live output. Google needs to recrawl and reprocess title sources, so do not treat an immediate unchanged result as proof that the edit failed.
Revisit comparable queries and Search Console reporting periods. A CTR decline alone does not identify a title change, and an increase does not establish additional booked jobs. Report the observed display and traffic changes alongside other events that could have affected performance.
