Google Business Profile Attributes: Choose Accurate Details for Your Business

·2 min read

Attributes add details to your Google Business Profile. Google's attribute guidance says some can help a business appear in searches for places with those characteristics. That does not establish a universal checklist that guarantees inclusion in Maps or AI answers.

Review the options actually available

Open your Business Profile, choose Edit profile, then More, and inspect the attribute categories shown. Some details are editable by the business; others may reflect customer input. Options can vary by country, location and business category.

Select accurate values and check the meaning of the field. Do not assume that another contractor's profile will have the same options or that an absent option is a configuration error.

Describe the service honestly

Before claiming availability, check what your business can deliver. Taking messages overnight is different from dispatching an emergency technician. Accepting a request through a website is different from providing an estimate online.

Use supporting website information to explain the actual process, including conditions and limitations. Do not promise free estimates, same-day visits or online booking unless those descriptions are accurate.

Business identity attributes should reflect the owners' actual circumstances and choices. Do not add them as a tactic based on assumptions about how a particular audience spends.

Choose categories for fit

Google's category guidance recommends choosing the specific available category that best describes the business, using a general category if the appropriate specific one is unavailable. Additional categories should describe relevant aspects of the business, not every individual service.

Categories affect local ranking, and Google may ask for verification again after a change. Correct inaccurate categories deliberately; do not switch them merely to gain more attribute fields or assume the change has no consequences.

Verify the result

Google reviews profile edits. Check the status and confirm what is visible publicly rather than relying on a fixed propagation timetable.

As a practical review, record what changed and why. Inspect your listing in the relevant search context, but do not infer a competitor's private settings from one result. Location, query and other factors can differ between observations.

The goal is accurate information that helps customers decide whether your business meets their needs. A completed attributes section is not proof of a ranking gain, an AI citation or a booked job.
