An SEO Maintenance Checklist for Home Service Businesses
A useful SEO review connects technical checks with the information and actions customers need. Use this list to organize an investigation, not to declare a website finished or promise a particular ranking.
Check access and the customer journey
- Confirm that important pages load over HTTPS and that redirects reach the intended destination.
- Review indexing controls and investigate unexpected exclusions in Search Console.
- Test navigation, contact links, and form completion on mobile and desktop.
- Investigate measured loading, responsiveness, or layout problems without turning a speed score into a predicted conversion rate.
Keep important pages linked within the site. Review the sitemap rather than dismissing it: Google says sitemaps can help discovery, although they do not guarantee crawling or indexing.
Review what the pages promise
Check titles, headings, descriptions, services, coverage, prices, and credentials against current business records. Give each page a clear purpose. Create a separate page when it provides useful, distinct information, not merely to increase the page count.
Answer real customer questions with supported facts. If you use structured data, make it consistent with visible content. Google does not require special schema for AI Overviews or AI Mode, and satisfying its requirements does not guarantee inclusion.
Maintain accurate local information
Review relevant Business Profile fields and important directory entries. Correct wrong business details; do not treat a directory-count target as a ranking plan. Follow service-area address guidance when customers are not received at your business address.
Invite genuine reviews without incentives, pressure, or selective requests for positive feedback, following Google's review policy.
Verify measurement and follow through
Confirm that consent and analytics behave as intended and that successful inquiries reach the business. Keep clicks, submitted forms, qualified leads, and booked work distinct. Record each finding, evidence, responsible person, fix, and verification date.
Review comparable reporting periods after changes and note other factors affecting demand. Use the evidence to choose the next action. A completed checklist is not proof of rankings, revenue, or AI citations.
