Write Accurate Titles and Descriptions for Contractor Service Pages
A service-page title should help someone understand what they will find. Start with the actual page and business offering, then write a concise description of its purpose. A template can organize the work, but it cannot guarantee search placement or clicks.
Give each page a clear description
Google recommends descriptive, concise title text. An adaptable starting point is service, relevant location, and brand. Use a location only when it accurately describes the page. Keep the business name recognizable and avoid unsupported words such as best or guaranteed.
Review the title alongside the main heading and page content. A repair page should describe repair; an installation page should describe installation. Do not change the advertised service merely to make two titles look different.
Write a useful summary
Summarize what the page offers and the next step a visitor can take. Verify any pricing, availability, warranty, or credential before including it. Google may use the meta description for a snippet, but it often draws from page content instead.
Use length previews as editing aids. Neither a title nor a description has a fixed character count that guarantees complete display on every device. Prefer clear wording over cutting an important qualification to satisfy a counter.
Keep an inventory and verify the change
- List each important URL with its current title, description, and main heading.
- Flag missing, misleading, outdated, or indistinguishable wording.
- Draft a replacement and have the business confirm factual claims.
- Publish through the site's normal review process, then check the resulting page metadata and visible content.
- Record the revision date and the reason for the change.
Compare relevant Search Console measurements over time with consistent filters. Keep qualified inquiries and booked jobs separate from clicks. A metadata edit is complete when the published information is correct; its search and business effects require additional evidence.
